Jesse: If You Go To Afghanistan, Please Stay There
Washington, DC 9/27/01- "The Reverend Jesse Jackson has just offered to meet with the Taliban to discuss peace in Afghanistan," said Rev. Louis P. Sheldon, Chairman of the Traditional Values Coalition. "If Jackson meets with these anti-American terrorists, we urge him to stay there." Traditional Values Coalition is deeply concerned that Jackson's attempts to grab headlines will provide aid and comfort to our nation's enemies during a time of war. "Jackson has been notably quiet since the September 11 Muslim terrorist attack on America. He was apparently meeting with his spin doctors to figure out how he could exploit this tragedy for his own purposes," said Sheldon. "After remaining silent after his exposure as an adulterer and father of an illegitimate child, Jackson needs a big win to get back in the limelight. It also appears that his extortion racket against major corporations is stalled for the moment," said Rev. Sheldon. Rev. Sheldon is concerned that Jackson is attempting to circumvent United States policy in dealing with Muslim terrorists and could jeopardize our national security by visiting with the Taliban. "Jackson is a private citizen who has no right to be negotiating anything with our nation's enemies," said Sheldon. "We have Secretary of State Colin Powell to deal with the Taliban. We have the President of the United States as Commander-in-Chief of our Armed Forces. We do not need Jesse Jackson to negotiate for our nation." Traditional Values Coalition notes that the Rev. Jackson has had a long-term love affair with Muslim terrorists, including Yasser Arafat, whom he met in 1979. Jackson recently held a meeting at Operation PUSH headquarters with Muslim clerics. According to Insight magazine, Jackson reportedly attacked Colin Powell, and suggested that we would better spend our time redistributing the wealth, feeding children, and fighting the AIDS epidemic. During his speech, Jackson attempted to turn this terrorist tragedy into a racist issue and blasted the Bush administration for allegedly engaging in racial profiling against Arab-Americans. "Jesse Jackson seems to despise America and seeks to make friends with America's enemies," said Rev. Sheldon. Jackson has also expressed anti-Jewish sentiments in the past, referring to New York as "Hymietown" in 1984. "Jackson's anti-Jewish feelings are again coming to the surface as he prepares to go to Afghanistan to meet with Yasser Arafat's friends and allies in the Jihad against Christians and Jews," said Rev. Sheldon. "We condemn not only his actions, but his radical anti-American and anti-Jewish beliefs. Jackson seems to be comfortable in the presence of terrorists and America haters. Perhaps he should remain in Afghanistan." The Traditional Values Coalition is an interdenominational
