JEFFERSON:
County fees could increase dramatically under proposal

PORT TOWNSEND -- User fees in Jefferson County would jump
dramatically if they were set according to the actual cost of
providing permits or doing inspections.
County commissioners Monday reviewed potential fees
estimated by the Community Development Department and the
Health Department.
Many fees would increase 50 percent to 70 percent,
especially if administrative overhead were factored into the
amount.
County Administrator Charles Saddler asked commissioners to
consider whether they favored 100 percent fee-for-service
funding or some other combination of fees and General Fund
subsidies.
That policy decision won't be made quickly, but Saddler
said he needed direction as the budget cycle approaches this
fall.
