The drivers say they want to be able to charge timber companies a fuel surcharge like airlines do to their customers.

TACOMA - Demonstrating truck drivers in Tacoma say they have no plans to block traffic to protest fuel prices as some truckers did in California.

In Tuesday's demonstration, more than 200 logging trucks parked at the Tacoma Dome.

The drivers say they need some relief from high fuel prices or they may not have enough money for safety maintenance. They say high costs could force some out of business.

The independent drivers want to be able to charge timber companies a fuel surcharge -- similar to the fuel surcharge added by airlines. Some companies have agreed to a surcharge but others have not.
