YREKA, CA - 7/18/01 - Waterfowl are being sacrificed in the Klamath Basin in order to save the sucker fish in the Klamath Lake, claims Klamath Wildlife Refuge biologist Dave Menke.

The cutback of water from the Tulelake Irrigation District has done more than just keep water away from farmers -even less is available for the wildlife refuges.

Menke told the Siskiyou County Supervisors Tuesday about the pain of watching ducks die of starvation and left vulnerable as the large refuge sumps evaporate into ponds and then completely dry up.

The supervisors requested Klamath Basin Wildlife Refuge representatives Phil Norton and Dave Menke appear before them on July 10 supposedly to talk about the hunting situation on the refuge.
