Clallam County final roster of candidates, 2001 (Port Angeles, WA- Last minute filings at the Clallam County Courthouse Friday have created five primary election races on the September ballot. The deadline has now passed to sign up for elective offices this year. Five more filings for Port Angeles City Council have created one contested race on the primary ballot and three on the general election ballot. PA residents John Logelin, Karen Spence and Darcy Hudgens have filed to run against incumbent Larry Williams for Council Position 2. The four will face off in the September primary. In the November general election, former Mayor Gary Braun will face Bruce Hattendorf for Position 1. Tom Bihn has signed up to challenge Karen Rogers for Council Position 3 and Richard Headrick will face Tad Price for Position 4. T here will be a primary election runoff between Port of Port Angeles Commission candidates Tim Fraser, Bill Hannan, Corby Somerville and Beverly Girvin, all of Sequim. Another primary faceoff will be for Hospital District 2 Commissioner. Marv Chastain, John Borah and Suzanne Hayden will face incumbent Connie Lawrence for District 3, Position 1. A primary will also be needed for Fire District 3 Commissioner, Position 1. Frank Clatanoff, Richard Houts, Wes Short and Jay Ketchum will be on the September ballot. Joseph Murray of Clallam Bay filed Friday for Clallam Conservation District Supervisor creating the need for a primary runoff with Nancy Lynn Newman of Port Angeles and Ryan Kent Smith of Sequim. 12 more people filed yesterday for the County's Charter Review Commission, bring the total to 46 candidates for the 15 positions on the November ballot. Sequim's Al Courtney filed Friday in District 1. Fred DeFrang of the Sheriff's office, Terry Roth, Michael Langley, John H. Miller, John Spiess, Jr and Terry Roth of Port Angeles filed in District 2. In District 3, Bill Lewis and City Attorney Rod Fleck of Forks; Patti Adler of Clallam Bay; Fran Burch, Kris Grier and Neal Richards of Port Angeles all added their names to the Charter Review Commission ballot. There will be two contested races for the Port Angeles School Board in November. Cindy Kelly filed today against incumbent Kevin Snyder. Nancy McLaughlin and Susie Sanders will run for the Position One seat now held by veteran School Director Margaret Crawford. Crawford did not file for re-election. There will be two contested races for Hospital District 2 Commissioner in November. Paul Thompson and Arlene Engel will tangle in the general election for the District 1, Position 2 seat. Kenneth Norris of Port Angeles will face incumbent Olympic Medical Center commissioner Jean Hordyk for the District 2, Position 2 seat. Hordyk is also running for a spot on the County Charter Review Commission. Olympic Medical Center commissioner Harlan Knudson will run unopposed for his District 1, Position 1 seat. William "Big Bill" Thomas will face Gary Kautz in the general election for Position 1 on the Crescent School Board. Raymond DiVacky and Lisa Barnes are running for Position 2 and Bonnie Hansen will run unopposed for Position 3. Park and Recreation District one has three contested races for the November general election. Cindy Tipton will face Lois Krafsky-Perry, Kevin Van DeWege will run against Susan Sorensen and Bill Hixson will take on Darryl Wolfe. Incumbent Clallam County Auditor Cathy McKeown will run unopposed in November. There will be no contested races for Sequim City Council. Bill Huizinga, Walt Schubert and Paul McHugh will run unopposed in November's general election. Francis Keyes will run unopposed as well for Sunland Water District Commissioner. Election Coordinator Patty Rosand says there will be a special filing period next week on Wednesday, Thursday and Friday for the offices that currently have no candidates. Those include the Sequim School Board District 3 seat, two positions on the Quillayute Valley Park and Recreation District, a seat on the Fire District 1 Board and two Fire District 5 commissioners.
