Land Trust to discuss conservation easements for Ennis Creek

from KONP Radio

Port Angeles, WA 8/16/01-- Problems and possibilities for Ennis Creek's fish habitat will be the focus of a meeting tonight at 7:30 at the Vern Burton Center. Information will be available about major problems related to a decline in the stream's native populations of steelhead, coho, cutthroat trout and other species.

Presentations on remedies will range from individual volunteer activities such as the Streamkeepers program, assistance the North Olympic Land Trust provides for landowners donating Conservation Easements and major projects that might qualify for state and federal funds.

Organizers Robbie and Jim Mantooth say they organized the session as a followup to StreamFest activities sponsored in June by the North Olympic Land Trust on the Mantooth's property, where the Land Trust helped them donate a Conservation easement.

According to Robbie Mantooth, more than 100 people turned out for StreamFest on a rainy day and expressed great interest in Ennis Creek.

This month's meeting will provide another opportunity to gain information and decide on ways to contribute to the stream's well-being.

Interested people who are unable to attend the meeting may contact the Mantooths at 457-5415.
