(Port Angeles) -- Clallam County Planning Director Andy Meyer has been fired from his position with the Department of Community Development. Meyer told Newsradio 1450 KONP that he received a termination letter from DCD Director Rob Robertson on Monday morning and told to turn in his key at the end of the day. Meyer says Robertson never provided him with anything that clearly detailed the overall expectations for his job performance -- a statement denied by Robertson when interviewed today by KONP. Meantime, Meyer says he's concerned about the future planning direction of the county with the loss of the planning manager's position -- making the county more vulnerable to legal challenges and lawsuits. However, Robertson disagrees with Meyer's assessment and says the county still has a two senior planners on staff. Robertson says he plans to eliminate the planner managers position and -- with the approval of county commissioners -- create two new positions of principal planner. The DCD director says the move will save the county money and increase services to the citizens. Meyer was county planning director for 7 1/2 years. He says he and his family have no immediate plans, adding they love the community and are committed to trying to stay in the area.
