Ranking Republicans announced for House committees

Olympia, WA - Rep. Cathy McMorris, House Republican Leader, today announced the legislators she has appointed to serve as Ranking Republicans on the standing committees of the state House of Representatives for the 2003 legislative session.

McMorris said House Republicans have high expectations for what the Legislature can accomplish when they convene on Jan. 13.
“Our team is going to be very aggressive in pursuing policies that will create jobs to turn our state’s economy around, balance the budget without tax increases, and begin to restore the public’s trust in government,” said McMorris. “We look forward to working closely with the Democrats and the governor to accomplish these goals.”

The Ranking Republican appointments announced by McMorris today include:

* Agriculture & Natural Resources: Rep. Mark Schoesler (Ritzville)

* Appropriations: Rep. Barry Sehlin (Oak Harbor)

* Capital Budget: Rep. Gary Alexander (Olympia)

* Children & Family Services: Rep. Mark Boldt (Vancouver)

* Commerce & Labor: Rep. Bruce Chandler (Granger)

* Criminal Justice & Corrections: Rep. Tom Mielke (Battle Ground)

* Education: Rep. Gigi Talcott (Tacoma)

* Finance: Rep. Jack Cairnes (Kent)

* Financial Institutions & Insurance: Rep. Brad Benson (Spokane)

* Fisheries, Ecology & Parks: Rep. Bob Sump (Republic)

* Health Care: Rep. Cheryl Pflug (Maple Valley)
