UN
solves Sesame Street dispute
Annan promote "group" over "individualism"
The conflict resolution skills honed in the
Balkans and Middle East served UN Secretary-General Kofi Annan well,
as he mediated a dispute centered around Elmo, Sesame Street's lovable,
fuzzy red monster. Annan taped the episode on Thursday. The world's
top diplomat intervened in the dispute between Elmo and his friends
about who should sing the alphabet song. Annan suggested that everyone
sing it together. The secretary-general, who goes to Norway on Monday
to receive the Nobel Peace Prize, says "I think there is a
child in each and every one of us," and that laughter is important
to everyone.
