WHATEVER HAPPENED TO FREEDOM?

By Lois Krafsky-Perry

Sequim, WA - 9/25/01 - Our community is faced with an onslaught of intimidations against personal property rights with plans for more added taxes, further restrictions, and fines. As people are realizing the repercussions of the county’s Critical Areas Ordinance (CAO), many are feeling helpless.

There is more to come as plans for enforcement are on the table for those who cannot meet the stringent rules and regulations of the CAO.

I, like many people am a believer in less taxes and smaller government. Our U.S. Constitution, Washington State Constitution, and our county constitution, the Clallam County Home Rule Charter, should suffice for our citizens.

Sequim is a retirement community. Many of our local citizens fought in wars to defend the freedoms of our country. Now, at retirement they are being visited with the opportunity to pay extra taxes, the probable loss of social security benefits, and for some, a stock market decline.

Many young families can’t pay their taxes, or in many cases cannot afford to buy a home.

Let’s say no to frivolous local government spending and repeal the (CAO), and while we are at it---dump the Growth Management Act (GMA), that was already rejected by the people of Washington State.
