"The Communitarian Update
Number 39

September 18, 2001

Lessons from September 11, 2001

Goodness and justice will triumph over evil but meanwhile it scored a big one. Think of the more than 1,000 orphans of the firefighters alone. Funerals in NYC every half hour. And... --Many more people in the Twin Towers helped their friends or a person in a wheelchair to get out than those who left them behind. --There was a strong expression of the spirit of community in New York City, in the nation, and even around the world --2 out of 3 Americans would suspend the constitution to fight terrorists. To protect our liberty, civil liberals better allow us to introduce some limited, carefully crafted new public safety measures rather than claim that they all make us do the work of the terrorists for them. Rights AND responsibilities.  -A.E."

A.E. is Professor Amitai Etzioni, GWU, one of seven communitarian advisors to President George Bush Jr. Bush was appointed heir to the US throne last year, he is son of ex-CIA operative/ex-Pres George Bush Sr., also known as the Queen Mother.

The Communitarian Network IS the think tank in D.C., A.E. is their spokesperson; he is saying exactly what the price will become for the U.S. to "win" this new war.

As concerned as I am over the fact that Bush is predicting the "war" will be something like the Irish conflict, (Who told him to say that? It means trained killers take actions against both military and civilian targets for 600 years!), I am VERY, VERY concerned that few people realize the implications of SUSPENDING THE CONSTITUTION... because once it's taken by force, WHO will reinstate it, and how?

Suspending the constitution means our children will live without a Bill of Rights.  It IS the end of our great democratic experiment.  And the communitarians said it first...

On a personal level... What happens to lawsuits in federal court that are suing under The Bill of Rights?  I suppose this suspends all constitutional case law too. How convenient for them.  Hmmm... and what about rallies, protests and opposition views posted on fences?  Why am I beginning to feel like a caged rat?

P.S. Watch, nobody in the free press will ask Etzioni where he got the 2 out of 3 Americans figure. In fact, as widely as Etzioni is quoted... let's see if this gets out.
