Sequim settles dispute over slope erosion

Sequim Gazette

Sequim, WA - Following a 30-minute executive session at its Nov. 10 meeting, the city council unanimously approved a settlement with Lakeside Industries for repairs to a collapsed slope above a section of Olympic Discovery Trail between Whitefeather Way and the eastern city limit. The city will pay about $9,000 for the materials and Lakeside will pay for the labor and other costs, said city attorney Craig Ritchie.

The section was completed in June 2007 at a cost of about $250,000. In December 2007, following a period of particularly heavy rain, several points along the slope above the trail began eroding and creating gullies. Interim Public Works director Bill Bullock emphasized that it was not the trail itself that had collapsed but the slope above it.
