An elderly Lynnwood man was charged with unlawful imprisonment after he allegedly grabbed a woman Friday who was jogging along a trail at Edmonds Community College.

Petro Ivanovich Panasyuk, 74, allegedly had his pants unzipped when he tried to pull the woman into the bushes, Snohomish County deputy prosecutor John Adcock said Tuesday in Superior Court papers.

The woman told police that when she first saw her attacker, he was smiling as he stood along a narrow section of the trail and appeared to be a "harmless old man," Adcock said.

Then the man grabbed her arm and tried to pull her into the woods.

The woman "observed the defendant's facial expression change from jovial to a determined look of 'evil,' " Adcock wrote.

The woman broke free and ran to campus security officers. Panasyuk was arrested a few blocks from the scene. He's been jailed in lieu of $50,000 bail.
