Clallam County commissioners on Monday affirmed their support for a starting annual salary of $53,079 for the first elected Department of Community Development director.

The commissioners last week postponed action on the salary proposed by County Administrator Dan Engelbertson after Department of Community Development staffers and others expressed concerns that the salary was too low to attract qualified candidates.

``There were some e-mails going around about the salary being too low,'' said Commissioner Steve Tharinger, D-Dungeness.

The salary proposal is expected to go before the commissioners next Tuesday for final approval.
