Congressman visits Port Angeles, discusses issues

(Port Angeles, WA) -- Congressman Norm Dicks was in Port Angeles this week, stopping in at the groundbreaking ceremony for Westport Shipyards and speaking briefly at the Chamber of Commerce meeting on Monday.

Congressman Dicks believes the Downtown Port Angeles Gateway Project is important to the future of the City and he will works to secure continued funding to get the project done right.

Dicks says the upcoming removal of the Elwha Dam will total $182 million, including the revamping of the Port Angeles water supply.The Congressman says the Bush Administration has been supportive of the project and funding is in the budget.Dicks has helped Senator Patty Murray to get the funding through the Appropriations Committee.

The Sixth District Congressman says he and Senator Murray are working hard to get rid of the inequity in the Medicare Reimbursement issue, which he called "a disaster" for Washington state and a major concern for doctors, hospitals and nursing homes.
